BIG PASSION FOR A SMALL TOWN
Gary Liss represents residents who want their hometown to preserve
its rural, small-town heritage. He has committed the time and the energy it takes to fight for
the integrity and financial sustainability of our town, its residents and businesses. Gary stands up for Loomis
residents and businesses, not big, out-of-town developers. Ø Large development proposals in the region pose a threat to locally-owned businesses, traffic patterns, wildlife habitats,
watersheds, privacy and the natural beauty that keep property values and the quality of life high in Loomis. Gary has built
better relations with neighboring governments so the impacts on Loomis are now routinely considered in many planning decisions,
particularly in Rocklin. Gary has recently started to work with Mayor Sandra Calvert and representatives from the Loomis
Basin Chamber of Commerce to work with Rocklin Councilmembers and the Rocklin Chamber of Commerce to develop a strategy of
how to work together to preserve both of our unique, historic downtowns once major malls on Sierra College Boulevard open
their doors.
Ø
Developments proposed on the borders of Loomis are in conflict with the
community values and rural lifestyle detailed in the Loomis General Plan and the Horseshoe Bar/Penryn Community Plan. Gary
worked tirelessly to minimize and mitigate the impacts of major new shopping malls being built in Rocklin, including
a commitment by one of the sites to co-promote public events in Loomis and serve as a back-up parking area for those
events. Gary is working now to lead the Town's efforts to stop 150 apartments from being the first of many apartment projects
proposed at the Penryn road exit from I-80.
Ø Gary
works through the Downtown Business Committee and the Placer County Economic Development board to support existing businesses
and attract new businesses to Loomis. He helped lead the Town to invest its reserves in a loan program for local businesses
to save jobs. He helped get blue directional signs from I-80 to Swetzer Road and a new monument sign at Swetzer Road that
were requested by businesses located there. He worked with the Chamber of Commerce to develop the I Love Loomis website, which
is being redesigned now. He got the County Economic Development Board to recognize the CCD Expo as a
leading business initiative for the entire region. He has attracted Green Businesses to Loomis to help Loomis residents
get jobs in the new Green economy.
Ø
He championed transparent, open government to build trust and participation
in decisions that affect Loomis, including the posting of all agendas and background materials on the Town's website.
Gary wants to hear from all residents and businesses, and responds to concerns that are raised by email, phone or in-person
at Town meetings. Have an issue of concern? Email Gary at liss4loomis@gmail.com or call 916-652-7850.
